In the past, Symmetric Research offered a line of stack accessories to make it easy to use our USB4CH and PAR4CH A/D products with Single Board Computers (SBCs) like the BeagleBone Black (BBB), Raspberry Pi (RPi), and Mini-ITX and PC104 form factor motherboards. The small size of these SBCs make them a good match for many embedded systems, field boxes and portable applications.

The BeagleBone Black (BBB) Rev C is a small 2" x 3" SBC. With a typical web price of $65, it also comes with a full Debian Linux preinstalled !!  The BBB uses separate USB and Ethernet buses making it free from contention errors common with many other SBCs. Use the USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-KIT adapter kit for stacking the USB4CH with the BeagleBone Black.

Example PAR4CH/PC104 Stack

PC104 motherboards are an older SBC form factor standard with a small 3.5" by 3.75" size which are now being superceded by the BBB and RPi. Most include non-standard connectors for common PC peripherals like disk controllers, serial and parallel ports, but other features like video, ethernet, modem, audio and digital IO vary widely across PC104 manufacturers. We used to manufacture a USB4CH-ADAPTER-PC104-KIT adapter board for stacking the USB4CH and a PC104 SBC. The example stack in the photo starts with a PC104 CPU card mounted on a PAR4CH-PC104-ADAPTER. Below that is a PAR4CH-PC104-DISK board with a 2.5" hard disk. It's followed by a PAR4CH A/D board and has a PAR4CH-PC104-POWER power distribution panel on the bottom.

USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-KIT

Not recommended for new designs.

The USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-KIT provides everything you need for building custom equipment stack with a USB4CH A/D and a BeagleBone Black single board computer. The kit includes the adapter plate, mounting spacers, and a short discrete wire USB cable.

USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-PLATE

Not recommended for new designs.

The USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-PLATE is made from 16g steel with three sets of mounting holes. It provides a sturdy and conductive mounting platform making it easy to mechanically connect a BBB to the USB4CH while allowing for good grounding between them. One adapter plate is included with each USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-KIT.

The outer set of holes aligns with the USB4CH, the inner aligns with the Beagle, and the third set supports a 10 position dual row terminal block for easy connections as needed to suit your application.

USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-SPACERS

Not recommended for new designs.

The USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-SPACERS is a set of hex spacers and related mounting hardware like screws and washers for connecting the A/D and Beagle SBC to the adapter plate. One spacer set is included with each USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-KIT.

USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-CABLE

Not recommended for new designs.

The USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-CABLE is a short discrete wire USB cable. At 3" long, it provides a compact BBB to USB4CH connection without using excessive space like a standard 6 ft USB cable would. One discrete wire USB cable is included with each USB4CH-ADAPTER-BBB-KIT.

PAR4CH/PC104 Thick Adapter

Product Description

The PAR4CH-PC104-ADAPTER-THICK is one of several accessory boards for use in building a custom PAR4CH/PC104 stack. With its two sets of mounting holes, this sturdy 1/8" thick adapter board makes it easy to connect a PC104 CPU card to the PAR4CH. The outer set aligns with the PAR4CH, while the inner aligns with the industry standard PC104 spec. Mounting hardware for both the PAR4CH and the PC104 holes is included.

The PAR4CH-PC104-ADAPTER-THICK and the PAR4CH-PC104-ADAPTER both have the same mounting hole configuration and large ground planes for electrical noise suppression. The former is thicker and the latter has additional headers for reducing ribbon cable twists if a compatible PC104 CPU card is used.

Either adapter can be substituted at no charge for the standard desktop enclosure included when purchasing a PAR4CH, just specify which you prefer. Adapter boards may also be ordered separately.

The PAR4CH-PC104-ADAPTER is one of several accessory boards for use in building a custom PAR4CH/PC104 stack. With its two sets of mounting holes, the adapter board makes it easy to connect a PC104 CPU card to the PAR4CH. The outer set aligns with the PAR4CH, while the inner aligns with the industry standard PC104 spec. Mounting hardware for both the PAR4CH and the PC104 holes is included.

In addition, the adapter has some optional headers that allow ribbon cable connections to the PAR4CH without twists if a compatible PC104 CPU card is used. Plus it has large ground planes for electrical noise suppression. The related PAR4CH-PC104-THICK is thicker, but does not allow for any optional headers.

Either adapter can be substituted at no charge for the standard desktop enclosure included when purchasing a PAR4CH, just specify which you prefer. Adapter boards may also be ordered separately.

PAR4CH/PC104 Disk Mount

Product Description

The PAR4CH-PC104-DISK is one of several accessory boards for use in building a custom PAR4CH/PC104 stack. With its ribbon cable headers and two sets of mounting holes, the disk mount board makes it easy to add a standard 2.5" hard disk into a PAR4CH/PC104 equipment stack.

One set of mounting holes aligns with the PAR4CH and the other mounts a standard 2.5" hard disk. Both 44 pin 2mm and 40 pin .1" ribbon cable headers are provided to allow easy connections with various PC104 CPU cards. An additional connector is included for bringing power to the hard disk when using .1" cables. Plus, the PAR4CH-PC104-DISK has large ground planes for good electrical noise suppression.

Also included on the board is a pair of connected 26 pin ribbon cable headers. One has the 2mm spacing often found on PC104 CPU cards and the other has the standard .1" spacing typically found on floppy drives, providing a handy conversion between the two if needed.

PAR4CH/PC104 Power Distribution

Product Description

The PAR4CH-PC104-POWER is one of several accessory boards for use in building a custom PAR4CH/PC104 stack. With its rows of standard 6/32 screw type terminal blocks, the power distribution panel makes it easy to connect power to other boards in a PAR4CH/PC104 equipment stack.

The power panel has mounting holes that align with the PAR4CH and five rows of capacitor buffered terminal blocks that provide power rails at +5V, +12V, -12V, ground, and floating. Plus, the PAR4CH-PC104-POWER has large ground planes for good electrical noise suppression.
